Accessibility

The goal is for these puzzles to be usable by as many people as possible, including people with low vision, people using a keyboard instead of a mouse, and activity directors printing for groups with a wide range of ability. This page describes what is actually in place today, not an aspiration.

Large-print mode

Many puzzles offer a large-print version alongside the standard one. Large-print output uses a minimum of 18-point type for body text and grid labels and 24-point type for headings, along with higher-contrast color choices and heavier line weights on grids and borders so puzzles stay legible after printing and photocopying, which tends to soften fine lines and light gray text.

Answer keys

Every puzzle on this site, in every format, comes with an answer key. This is not a manual add-on; the software that generates each puzzle produces the answer key from the same solved layout, so a key is always available and always matches the puzzle it belongs to.

Keyboard navigation

The site is built to be navigable by keyboard: links, buttons, and form fields such as the newsletter signup can be reached and activated using Tab and Enter rather than requiring a mouse.

Where this is still a work in progress

Not everything is solved. Some puzzle formats do not yet have a large-print version. Screen reader support for the puzzle grids themselves, as opposed to the surrounding site text, is limited, since a visual grid of letters or numbers does not translate cleanly to audio without extra work not yet done for every format. Color contrast and print legibility have been checked by hand on common puzzle types, not audited against a formal standard.

Reporting a problem

If a puzzle is hard to read, a page is hard to navigate, or something about how this site works gets in the way of using it, please say so through the contact page. Concrete details — which puzzle, which device or browser, what specifically was hard to use — make it possible to actually fix the problem rather than guess at it.
