Privacy Policy

TODO: have a lawyer review before launch. This page is written in plain language to be genuinely useful, but it has not yet been checked by a lawyer, and it should be before the site relies on it.

This page explains what information this site collects, why, and what choices you have about it. The short version: there is no account system, no payment collection, and almost nothing about you is stored unless you choose to sign up for the newsletter.

What is collected

If you subscribe to the email newsletter, your email address is stored so puzzle updates can be sent to you. That is the only personal information this site asks you to hand over directly, and it is only collected if you choose to give it.

Like most websites, the server that hosts this site keeps standard access logs: things like your IP address, the page you requested, your browser type, and the time of the request. These logs exist mainly for security and troubleshooting, are not cross-referenced with anything else about you, and are not sold or shared.

Cookies and advertising

This site is supported by Google AdSense. AdSense and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites (personalised or "interest-based" advertising). That means a cookie set by Google or an ad partner may be used to show you ads that are more relevant to you, both here and elsewhere.

This site does not control what data Google or its partners collect through those cookies. Google explains, and lets you adjust, how it uses advertising cookies through its own policies and settings — see Google’s advertising policies and Ads Settings for details on how personalised advertising works and how to opt out of it. You can also use your browser’s cookie controls, or a tool like the Digital Advertising Alliance’s opt-out page, to limit interest-based advertising more broadly.

No accounts, no payment data

There is nothing to sign up for to use the puzzles, so there are no account passwords or profiles stored anywhere. The site does not sell anything and never asks for a credit card, so no payment information is ever collected, processed, or stored.

Unsubscribing and deleting your data

Every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link, and clicking it removes you from the mailing list. If you would like your email address deleted outright rather than just unsubscribed, or you have any other request to have data about you removed, use the contact page and ask — this will be handled directly since there is no self-service account system to do it through.

Your rights (GDPR and CCPA)

If you are in the European Union or the UK, data protection law (GDPR) gives you the right to know what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to object to certain uses of it. If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you similar rights: to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion of it, and to opt out of its sale — this site does not sell personal information. In plain terms, for either set of rights: the newsletter email address is the only personal data this site holds on purpose, and you can ask to see it, correct it, or delete it at any time through the contact page.

Children

Many of the puzzles here are made with kids in mind, but the site itself is not designed to collect information from children, and the newsletter signup is intended for a parent, teacher, or other adult to use on their own behalf.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any meaningful way, the date and the substance of the change will be reflected on this page.
